I purchased a brand new 16 X 24 Kayak pool in October 2003. The installers were great, did a good job installing the pool. First three (3) years pretty much problem free. Fourth (4th) year, different story. We noticed that the straps for the corners and middle were beginning to show through the liner. Called Kayak and guess what, "That's normal. The pool is settling." Well each year it got worse, to the point you would trip over the bars. Kayak, yeah, NO HELP. Now we get to the good parts. In 2011 our 25 Mil liner with a 30 year warranty tore in all four corners. Well, that's shouldn't be a problem, there is a 30 year warrant on that puppy. WRONG!!!!!! Kayak informs me that unless the seams failed, too bad. "It was a very harsh winter." I said, really? seemed to be a normal Michigan winter to me. Kayak, "Well no, with the extreme cold, there was a lot of ice damage done to liners and that's not covered." But the bright side is, you got (8) good years out of the liner.

So no warranty huh? "No, not unless the seams failed." What what if the seams did fail, the warranty will cover that right? Kayak "Oh sure, but keep in mind it will be prorated." Huh? prorated. What does that mean? Well you had it 8 years so we would prorate the new liner 8 years. Okay, so how much will the liner cost? Kayak

" Well it would be $435.00 plus freight." Okay so how much total? Kayak "With freight it will be $575.00" WOW!!! how much is a new liner if I just purchased it? " Well, a new liners for your pool will be $680.00 plus freight." Okay again, total?? "It will be $810.00 with the 30 year warranty."

So I got the 15 year warranty liner since obviously neither warranty is worth a ****. That one cost me $680.00. Now we move into 2013. We noticed that our LIFETIME warranty water walls were starting to peel and corrode. We call Kayak and tell them about the walls and of course they need pictures. So I send pictures and Kayak informs me that there is grass on the walls. I said, well yeah that is from mowing. Kayak " Well you can not let anything touch those walls. You have to keep grass off of them or they will corrode." I am sorry, I did n't see that in the warranty, it says can not be buried or dirt and rocks laid against the walls. Nothing about grass clippings.

Well, you guessed it, not covered. So we just opened the pool and kept using it waiting for the walls to blow out. They didn't, still up,just peeling badly. Well, now its March 2015 and guess what, the 3 year old liner, shot. Corners torn out as before and of course Kayak say's, "Well its been a rough winter, a lot of ice damage." Right............. So now I am looking for other liner alternatives. Will not buy another thing from Kayak.

So in closing, why in the world would you spend $15,000.00, $18,000.00 or more on a Kayak that obviously does not last as they claim. I have had previous pools that have lasted just as long and were a quarter of the cost. The only thing that is strong and nice is the aluminum frame and it looks nice. But I can teel you, I will NEVER recommend Kayak to anyone. Over priced, *** service and a worthless warranty.

I completely agree with you about kayak service and warranty. I call them after only 2 years, cause a leak from one corner that had settled.

I got no help from kayak. I also would never recommend them to anyone.

Forgot to add that the pool is over 45 years old now and still nice. Aluminum is forever.

If you close it right and open it correctly no problems at all.

Took the pump inside every winter and drained the filter and each spring everything was like new. Bought a heater for it but we never hooked it up.

I got my Kayak 12 X 24 in 2000 from a friend's grandmother. She had it for over 25 years.

I disassembled it all by myself and loaded it on a gooseneck trailer and brought it home. After about two weeks we had it up and running. I purchased the liner, coping, ladder, hardware kit and blue textured paint from Pool Supplies.com. great deals.

Hardware kit was just over $100.00 and included every Zinc coated screws, bolts, nuts needed for putting the pool back together. Couldn't afford installing new walls and just painted them to match our home. That was over 20 years ago. Replaced the was 3 years ago along with the liner.

The walls for the entire pool in Tan color was $1300. Also purchased another hardware kit. I love my pool. Did have the straps starting to show and bought a small order of sand and rented a compactor.

Me and my two sons had the walls and sand installed in just one weekend. SIMPLE....

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about your pool. We have had our for 19 yrs.

This year we decided to move the pool as the liner finally went. It was just to brittle and old. We decided if we were taking it apart may as well replace the walls. Only two walls really needed replacing.

We did have to replace the top deck boards a couple of Tims as the did rot out, when we bought we painted all walls and deck with marine grade paint.and the boards were marine grade as well. We had to repair six holes over the coarse of nineteen years. We also only use liquid chlorine and pucks. They all try to sell you many different products that you don't need.

Our water is always crystal clear.

So again I am sorry to hear what you have gone threw. I know from talking on the phone their service reps are not really useful nor are they friendly.

We too had the same problem> all wood waterwalls deteriorate. the liner has holes.

We stopped buying liners from kayak pools and went elsewhere. You can purchase all the items from poolsupplies.com or make your own walls out of marine plywood and then paint it. Honestly we have our pool for 27 years. the frame is great but to rebuild is for me too costly since I no longer have little ones.I am at this time trying to sell it if i can.

If not, it is going to the scrap yard. The water walls deteriorate within a couple of years and once you change those you also need to reinstall a new liner because once you take the liner out it is going to shrink. Kayak intentionally went bankrupt not to long after we bought the pool. now open under a new name of kayak.

disgusting how they charge what it would cost for a car and does not honor their warranties. they pass the blame knowing there are problems with their products.

that is why all the stipulations and excuses on not covering their warranties.
